FTimes-STT Report, May 9

The Chair of Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), Juha Sipilä, who is likely to take over as the Prime Minister and negotiating with the political parties to form the next government on Friday said that the actual negotiations for the new government will begin on Monday.

The issues related to the European Union foreign and security policies, as well as immigration will be discussed among the three parties initially agreed to form the alliance government.

According to Sipilä, preparations for three of those policies can begin, because the fiscal guidelines are now ready, and they have little economic effects on those policies.

Sipilä told a press conference for the negotiations that the policies for the EU, guidelines for security, foreign policy, and immigration are expected to be completed in two days, or Tuesday evening at the latest.

According to the Chief of Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP), Alexander Stubb, the EU and immigration policies are interwoven.

The Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) chairman, Timo Soini believes that the influence of all three parties is evident in the solutions they are drawing up.

The government negotiators have received refinements of the economy situation.

The basis for this work is the Ministry of Finance's six billion euro adjustment, but the timetable can be changed, according to Sipilä. Raising taxes is not an option, Sipilä said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Keskuta reached an understanding with the Perussuomalaiset  and Kokoomus to form the next alliance government.
