The Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) leader, Mauri Pekkarinen has softened the party's assessment of the Perussuomalaiset’s (Finns Party) position on supporting Greece.

Pekkarinen said earlier to STT that he believes the Perussuomalaiset is committed to ensuring that Greece receives additional support, if necessary, from the eurozone permanent crisis fund (EVM).

According to Pekkarinen's understanding, the party would have accepted this when it joined government negotiations.

Later Pekkarinen clarified that he is not certain about the True Finns' position.

"I believe that Finland will have to adhere to crisis fund-related commitments. Previous commitments are still binding on any future government," he added.

Finland has already paid its share of the crisis fund, so Finnish responsibilities are not going to directly increase, although additional support could be granted. Greece has not yet requested an additional loan, but the possibility remains.

In the coming years, the crisis fund could see an increase in equity if a supported country or bank faces collapse. This is written in the crisis fund's rules.

"Tricky moments might pop up, but we are committed," Pekkarinen told STT.

He pointed out that the future government, including the True Finns, will have to commit to this.

Chairman of Perussuomalaiset, Timo Soini told STT that he would not comment on any negotiations before decisions have been made.
