The Helsinki District Court convicted a man on Friday for killing his father.
He was not, however, sentenced to punishment because he was, according to a psychological profile, incapable of understanding his offense due to mental illness.
Instead of a prison sentence, he has been placed in compulsory care.
The homicide took place in November last year and the act involved a knife.
The prosecutor pushed for a prison sentence for murder, but the court ruled that the accused was not capable of murder, as murder requires deliberate consideration.
The man, a paranoid schizophrenic, was also found guilty of aggravated theft and malicious acts.
