Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) MP Toimi Kankaanniemi who has been involved in a texting controversy will no longer take part in the ongoing government negotiations.

However, no further repercussion will head Kankaanniemi’s way, said Jari Lindström, the chair of Finns Party parliamentary group.

On Monday it emerged that Kankaanniemi had sent indecent messages to a number of women affiliated to Finns Party.

Lindström described the incident as embarrassing to the Finns Party.

“Everyone understands that these are always embarrassing. A very unpleasant incident,” Lindström said.

Lindström said the decision on Kankaanniemi was reached following discussions with the party chair Timo Soini.

Lindström said he had failed to reach Kankaanniemi until the afternoon. In the end, Kankaanniemi responded to him via a text message but did not answer the phone when Lindström tried to reach him.

“I prefer to speak to people by word of mouth than through a text message. It was not successful,” Lindström said.

Lindström did not divulge the content of the text message. However, the message from Kankaanniemi, according to Lindström, suggested he regrets the incident.
