President Sauli Niinistö and his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday held a telephone conversation which was conducted on Finland's initiative.

According to the Russian president's website, Putin in the course of discussion said the entry ban of part of the Russian Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) was legally flawed.

The statement pointed out that entry ban decision was made following pressure from some of the EU countries.

The statement also emphasised that Putin and Niinistö believe the bilateral relations between the two countries remain good despite the external factors.

According to a release from the Office of the President, the two presidents discussed topical bilateral and international issues such as the OSCE, the agreement on Iran's nuclear programme and Ukraine.
