The Jyväskylä City Corporation has discharged three of its employees on charge of inappropriate actions towards elderly people at a shelter centre.

The authorities took the action in the wake of allegations of ill-treatment of employees at a shelter accommodation unit located at Väinönkatu where the residents are mostly elderly people suffering from multiple illnesses.

The improper conduct claim came to light after other staff reported the allegations.

The director of services at the accommodation shelter, Risto Kortelainen, however, refused to divulge details about the allegations.

The suspects are trained and permanent employees.

The families of the elderly residents have been informed about the case. The City of Jyväskylä also plans to organise a roundtable to discuss the event with the families.
