Two people were taken to hospital on Monday evening after a shooting incident at the Myyrmäki railway station in Vantaa.
 
The police said one of them suffered gunshot wounds. According to a Finnish language daily, Helsingin Sanomat, the injuries were not severe.
 
The incident took place before 6.00 pm.
 
A security guard at a nearby restaurant, Toppari, told the news agency STT that two shots were heard from the station. A lot of police then arrived at the scene, said the guard.
 
The shooting took place at the train station after some kind of “altercation,” Detective Inspector Timo Pirinen told STT. 
 
According to Pirinen, bystanders were not put in immediate danger.
 
The parties involved were men, and according to police information, the incident did not involve any kind of groups.
 
Pirinen refused to divulge whether the shooter was among those taken to hospital or was still at large.
 
The Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV said the shooting was preceded by fighting involving two men in which a third man intervened.
 
Before 8.00 pm, the police cordoned off one building near the railway station for about an hour.
 
Police presence was also enhanced in a nearby shopping centre in Myyrmäki.
 
The police are expected to give another briefing on Tuesday.
