FTimes – STT Report, Dec 3

According to trade union of the Finnish Police Federation (SPJL), asylum seekers in decentralised reception centers have caused heaps of work for the police.

“If the reception centers are scattered all throughout Finland, the police cannot quickly and accu-rately send forces to the scene,” said SPJL president Yrjö Suhonen.

Police have been called to handle confrontations between asylum seekers themselves and clashes with the native population. Suhonen stresses that the role of the police is the safety of all.

“In sparsely populated areas, you might have to wait hours for the police to arrive. This was the norm even before problems caused by immigration. The situation has not improved at all, and it's starting to become an occupational hazard for the police officers.

“Our resources are increasingly being wasted on treating minor situations. This results in the basic job going undone, such as traffic monitoring, investigation, whatever,” he added.
