The Foreign Ministry is investigating alcohol and tobacco purchases by Finland's Permanent Representation in Stockholm.

The Finnish Embassy in Sweden passed on tens of thousands of cigarettes and more than one hundred litres of wine, beer and spirits, said the Swedish language news agency SPT on Tuesday.

According to SPT calculations, the Swedish government probably lost around 20,000 euros in tax revenue annually due to the tobacco and alcohol mediation. SPT examined the applications for tax-free products from the years 2013-2015.

Foreign Ministry administration director Ari Rouhe told Finnish news agency STT that the Min-istry initiated the investigation because of new information revealed by the news agency.

The process will take, according to his estimate, at least a few weeks. Rouhe said that this is a unique case with a large outlook.

The administration director stressed that first they will gather more information before any deci-sion is taken.

Rouhe is not yet able to say whether the Ministry is working together with Swedish authorities.
