The Foreign Minister, Erkki Tuomioja, the Minister for International Development, Heidi Hautala and the special representative Pekka Haavisto are visiting the African country after the overall security situation improved there since 2011 after the fall of the radical Islamist group of AL-ShahaB movement. The foreign minister during the visit observed that normalcy was being restored in Somalia gradually after the long disintegration and civil war.
He pointed out that Finland would not entertain any more refugee from Somalia rather many of the refugees are considering to return back to their home country. The Finnish ministers are scheduled to hold talks with their Somalian counterparts, President Sheikh Hassan Mohamud, a high-level ministers and representatives of NGOs during the visit. They will also be informed about the EU and UN activities in Somalia as Finland is actively participating in the training of the security forces of Somalia for a long. The Finland mission will be continued there till 2015 . EU has recently planned to transfer its development facilities to Somalia from Uganda and the transfer mechanism would be taken place places by phases gradually. The ministers will meet the Somalian civil society . Earlier, the foreign minister visited Yemen on Sunday and held meetings with the presidents, foreign ministers and interior minister to know the latest condition of the Finnish couple who were abducted from the capital city Sana’a in December last year.
