Timo Toivonen, an out-and-out parachutist, on Sunday made a new Finnish skydiving record by jumping from a height of 9302 metres at Utti in Kouvola.

Aeronautical authorities confirmed that Toivonen drove from an aircraft at the record altitude and broke the previous record of 9190 metres made by a paratrooper, Tomi Aaltonen, 45 years ago.

Toivonen jumped out of the aircraft amidst a minus 56 degrees Celsius temperature and freefell for two minutes and 25 seconds before opening his parachute.

He expressed his joy at making the new record, adding he would make a move to set another record after three weeks.

Toivonen said he would jump from a hot-air balloon at the altitude of 10 kilometres.
