A higher court on Thursday upheld the punishment given to Finnish environmental activist Sini Saarela by a lower court.

The Supreme Administrative Court rejected her appeal and maintained the earlier ruling by the Supreme Court of Vaasa which fined Sarela 30-days’ salary.

She was charged with insubordination and breaching peace with plans to organise protests near the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Eurajoki in April 2011.

The area around the nuclear plant is a prohibited zone and out of bound for public.

Saarela is currently awaiting trial after being released on bail from Russia.

Together with other 29 activists, she was arrested in September for opposing the Arctic oil drilling.

The activists were released after about two months of detention.
