Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Friday said the government has not always been successful to become a robust change maker as it would have wanted.

Speaking at a Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Part)-NCP meeting, Stubb admitted that there has been a lack of balance between expectations and implementations in the current government and called for improvement in this area in the future.

The premier, on the other hand, claimed that the current government has achieved a lot, pointing out that the collapse of the Euro block, for instance, has been prevented and that unemployment is not as severe as it would have been.

Stubb also pointed at the agreed pension reforms as well as the reforms in the social welfare and healthcare sector, the so-called Sote reforms, as areas where success has been achieved.

Speaking to the press, he, however, admitted that some issues could have been done much better, more robust and faster.

According to recent opinion polls, citizens are not much impressed with the government’s achievements.

According to the recently published report of an opinion poll conducted by the national broadcaster YLE, the NCP’s approval rating stands at 17.3 per cent, behind the Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) which holds a record lead of 26.7 per cent.

The Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland)-SDP came in third place with 16.1 per cent of support.

Stubb predicted that the elections next year are going to be fought between reformers and conservatives, admitting that the Centre Party is the clear favourite.

He attributed the break in the coalition government to political and economic instability.
