FTimes-STT Report, Dec 26

An 80-year-old man was burnt to death in a fire that broke out in a house at Ilomantsi in North Karelia.

Police on Thursday recovered the snow-covered body from under the debris of the gutted house, police and rescue department sources said.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the police received the information that the resident of the single house had not been collecting mail from the mailbox for several days.

A team of patrol police rushed to the spot and found the burnt body of the elderly man on the floor of the house.

The police said the fire broke out some days ago, but the smoke was not noticed as it was covered by snow.

The police said they found only the bones. The decomposed body could not be identified immediately.

The body will be identified after conducting DNA tests.

The 80-year-old resident was seen last on December 18, said the police, adding that they did not suspect any link of murder to the incident.
