The police have detained two men, aged 21 and 22, for allegedly attacking the house of Finance Minister Alexander Stubb early Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

Contrary to earlier information, low-grade rifle was used in the assault. The two suspects are residents of the area known as one of the upscale regions of Espoo, a neighbouring city west to Helsinki.

The men had no previous criminal record. The police told the media it was still under investigation what was the motivation and whether the men had intended to harm the family.

The men had also inflicted damage on a school and day care facility nearby.

Meanwhile, a number of hate groups against Finance Minister Alexander Stubb are still alive on the social network Facebook, reported the news agency STT.

STT adds: The most striking of them, at least on the basis of name, is Kill Alexander Stubb (figuratively).

A group with the same name, originally lacking the word “figuratively”, was thought to have been closed on Wednesday.

The group had 140 members on Thursday afternoon.

A second group declares itself for anyone “who hates Alexander Stubb”. The group has over 600 members.

The groups are closed, meaning their content is not viewable to those outside the group.

A third hate group’s discussion included, among other things, regret at the recent stone-throwing and vandalism at Stubb’s home.
