The accident took place at the Mechelininkatu-Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu intersection in the afternoon.
The 9-year-old girl had passed the Mechelininkatu pedestrian crossing and was heading towards the direction of Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu.
The lorry came from the direction of Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu and was heading to Runeberginkatu and made a turn at Mechelininkatu.
The pedestrian crossing was traffic light-controlled and according to reports both lights had displayed green light.
The police are investigating the accident as endangering traffic safety and manslaughter. It is not suspected that alcohol played a part in the accident.
