Finland's population stood at 5,479,018 at the end of July, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.
 
Over the January to July period, the country's population increased by 7,270 persons, which is 5,150 persons fewer than for the corresponding period of the year before.
 
The main reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad.
 
The number of immigrants was 5,700 higher than that of emigrants. Natural population growth, or excess of births to deaths, was 1 570 persons, the data show.
 
A total of 13,210 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 7,520 persons emigrated from Finland as per the statistics for the January to July period.
 
The number of immigrants was 3,900 lower and the number of emigrants 340 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
In all, 4,320 of the immigrants and 4,990 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.
 
During the January to July period, 32,220 children were born, which is 1,510 children fewer than in the corresponding period of 2014.
 
The number of deaths was 30,650, which is 90 higher than one year earlier.
