Former president Tarja Halonen was one of the volunteers who turned up early in the morning at 8:30 am to take part in the collection of donations for Hunger Day by the Finnish Red Cross that began at the Helsinki railway station on Thursday.
Three days have been allocated for the collection of funds for the Finnish Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund which helps victims of natural disasters and conflicts around the world.
The funds will also be directed to help asylum seekers cause through the sustenance of volunteering work.
