About 75 per cent of Finns believe the opposition parties have performed poorly or quite poorly in their efforts to present alternatives to the government policies, according to a survey commissioned by a Finnish language daily, Helsingin Sanomat.

According to the survey conducted by TNS Gallup in September, dissatisfaction with opposition is greater than a year ago.

The respondents are not pleased with the government either. According to the survey, 56 per cent of the respondents deemed the performance of the government quite poor.

The survey found that the government received significant recognition from supporters from the ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) and Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party).

Senior citizens, academicians, high-income earners and people in leadership positions are on average satisfied with the government.

However, some in this group also gave the government a weak rating.

The respondents expressed concern about the state of the economy and development of the country.

Two out of three respondents said they were concerned about unemployment.

Economic growth, indebtedness of the state and social inequality also concerned the majority of Finns.

More than half of the respondents said the issue of immigration occupied them.
