Most of the political parties, excepting the Perussuomalainen (True Finns), expressed their support to Keskusta (Centre) Party leader Antti Kaikkonen continuing as the vice-president of the Grand Committee of the parliament despite being convicted in a case.

Leaders of the parties said they had confidence in Kaikkonen, even after the conviction, and he might continue in office.

Earlier, Perussuomalainen leader Jussi Halla-Aho had to resign from the post of the chairman of the management committee as the court penalised him in a case.

Perussuomalainen leader Pirkko Ruohonen-Lerner, however, said the party would take position against Kaikkonen as he was convicted by the court.

Kaikkonen was sentenced to conditional imprisonment in an election funding case while Halla-Aho was fined for some postings made on his personal blog.

‘In Halla-Aho’s case, a strong debate was created in the management committee over his own statement and the committee members felt his presence would be a problem,’ Orpo said, explaining the reason for the resignation of the True Finns leader.
