FTimes- Xinhua Report, July 26

A cargo consignment containing missile seekers being exported to Ukraine via Finland is currently under investigation, Finnish customs authorities said Friday.

The cargo, weighing slightly over 1 ton, arrived at Helsinki airport from Vietnam en route to Ukraine on Thursday when it was confiscated.

Finnish Customs were investigating the case as "an export offence involving defense materiel," as "no transit authorization has been applied for the products," authorities said.

A violation of export regulations can lead to a fine or imprisonment for up to four years, they added.

A Finnish customs press release said investigations confirmed that the consignment was sent to Ukraine for repair and maintenance within the framework of normal military cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam.

They added preliminary investigations will probably take more than six months as authorities in different countries will need to be involved.

Earlier reports said customs were also investigating the final recipient of the cargo in Ukraine.
