The visiting Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner on Tuesday met President Sauli Niinistö at the Presidential Palace.
 
Niinistö and John Boehner discussed the situation in Ukraine as well as other topical foreign policy issues.
 
The president during the meeting stated that the United States is an important ally of Finland.
 
Niinistö also pointed out that the European security has experienced changes as a result of the crisis in Ukraine.
 
As the Speaker of the House, Boehner is the third in line to the presidency after the president and the vice president of the US.
 
The Office of the President in a release confirmed that the US delegation led by Boehner also met with the Speaker of Parliament Maria Lohela and Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini.
