Prime Minister Juha Sipilä in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev on Monday discussed the situation in Ukraine and suggested that a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis needed to be found through the implementation of the Minsk Agreement.

"Peace is our common goal, and something we should all strive for," the Finnish Prime Minister reportedly said in the nearly half an hour conversation which was the first between the two prime ministers.

Sipilä, among other issues, also talked about the new Finnish government programme and its objectives, reported officials.

In the past, the prime ministers of Finland and Russia met regularly twice a year, alternatively in Finland or Russia. Due to the crisis in Ukraine, the visits have stopped.

The prime ministers agreed to stay in contact, but no plan was made for any official visit.
