District prosecutor Pertti Lahtiola is considering launching a criminal investigation against a police officer of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) involved in the Aarnio case, reported a Finnish language newspaper, Suomen Kuvalehti.

The magazine also explains that a NBI officer purchased a scooter for a woman from Malmi who was an important source of information.

Senior investigating officer in the Aarnio case Jukka Haavisto told STT that NBI did not purchase the scooter.

Haavisto would not comment on whether any police officer purchased a scooter as a private citizen.

“These matters will be cleared up. I do not know people’s private affairs, or who has done what,” he said.

According to Suomen Kuvalehti, the NBI officer is the key to the story, because he was solely responsible for interrogating the woman.

The woman was the prosecution’s key witness in the drug trial against the detained former Helsinki drug unit police chief JariAarnio.

The prosecutor also demands a sentence for the woman for serious drug offences.

Aarnio has been in detention since November 2013.
