A man wielding a knife went on a rampage at the Laajakoski refugee reception centre in Kotka on Wednesday, police said.

The suspect who was born in 1989 is also a resident at the refugee centre.

The man stabbed one resident with a knife on the neck. The victim, however, partly blocked the knife with his hands and did not sustain serious injuries.

In the second incident, one resident intervened when the perpetrator tried to stab another person and received cuts on the hands in the process, said the police.

In yet another attempt, the suspect held the knife on the neck of another resident. This incident, however, did not result to physical injuries.

The police are investigating the incident as attempted murder, aggravated assault and issuing un-lawful threat.
