After the visit they  will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the Olympics from August 18 to August  21.

The journey will begin in Montevideo, where Niinistö will hold bilateral talks with his Uruguayan counterpart Tabaré Vázquez on August 17.

The topics to be covered in the presidential discussions will include bilateral relations between Finland and Uruguay and current issues in Latin America.

His  programme also includes meetings with representatives of the city's management and business life.

From Uruguay, the presidential couple will continue to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where Niinistö and Haukio will follow the performance of Finnish athletes in various sport and visit the athletes at the Olympic Village, the press release added.
