One person from Pirkanmaa area is suspected to have seized 3,500 computers via a link on video sharing platform YouTube.

The police told news agency STT that the man who is in his 20s is suspected to have encoded the malicious programme by himself.

The anti-virus software was unable to detect the malicious programme.

The link which came along with a video was supposed to be downloaded on the computer using a manual.

The link, however, did not use the manual to download the programme, instead the malware was downloaded and installed with the knowledge of the computer user seizing the computer in the process.

The hacker, according to the police, could see all that was happening in the computers if he so wished.

The man is suspected of causing harm to processing of data and aggravated hacking.

“This is also an opportunity to get computer passwords, e-mails and sensitive information which can be sold online or may be used to blackmail,” said lead investigator Ossi Kaario of Central Finland Police.

The seized computers happened to be in the country as well as abroad.
