The Helsinki police seized a huge batch of approximately 40,000 Subutex tablets in August with a street value of one million euros, said the police.

The police announced on Wednesday that they had recovered a large distribution of Subutex tablets, wherein the tablets were brought from France to Finland.

The police seized tens of thousands of tablets in connection with the arrest of a foreign man.

“The Subutex tablets were smuggled in through suitcases via passenger ships from Estonia,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jari Nikonen.

Nikonen believes this is likely the largest seizure of Subutex tablets in recent years.

"This is just an unimaginably large amount,” said Nikonen.

The foreign man is also suspected of smuggling during a previous trip. At the time, he is suspected of having brought 7,000 Subutex tablets from France to Finland. The police believe these tablets were distributed for sale in Helsinki and elsewhere in Finland.

The main suspect and five others have all been detained during the preliminary investigation. The five Finns arrested are suspected of distributing the drugs. In addition to the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the suspects are from Tampere, Riihimäki, and Lappeenranta.

Nikonen said the case has not yet been forwarded for consideration of charges.
