Finns spend very little for their parents’ care, revealed a survey commissioned by YLE.

Less than one in eight of the respondents spend more than 100 euros monthly for their parents’ care.

About 85 percent of the respondents revealed that they spend less than 100 euros in a month to cater for their parents.

Only less than one fifth of the respondents revealed they spend time with their parents. The figure of respondents between the age of 50-64 is higher in this aspect of spending time with parents. One third from this group spend normally 10-20 hours in a month caring for their parents.

The survey indicated that that there was no significant difference in care costs between those earning more and those with less income.

The majority of both parents and children in the survey believe that elderly care is primarily a societal function.

The survey was carried out by Taloustutkimus and 1003 people were interviewed.
