National social insurance institution Kela has announced nationwide changes in reimbursement of Kela-subsidised taxi expenses from the beginning of next year. The change, however, will not be applicable in Åland islands.

From the beginning of next year, personal share of the customer will be doubled in case a customer does not place an order from the Taxi Centre.

Personal share of customer will rise from 14 euros to 16 euros. In this case, the customer will get the subsidy immediately in the taxi and does not need to apply for reimbursement afterwards.

In case the taxi is ordered through any means other than the Taxi Centre, personal share of the customer becomes 32 euros and application of reimbursement should be done afterwards.

Kela-subsidised taxi expense is intended for people who need ride to hospital, due to pregnancy or rehabilitation.

Taxi ride is subsidised if a person's medical condition permits the use of taxi or if public transport is lacking.
