Christmas celebration has been relatively calm and has passed without any major incident. Police and rescue workers across different parts of the country said Christmas was observed quite peacefully and even some of the authorities observed that Christmas holiday was more relaxed than usual.

According to the police, the night in the capital city region was calmer considering it was a Christmas night.

The police have, however, been busy with incidents such as fights and alarms raised in some homes, but there has been no report of serious happening.

The holiday return traffic is expected to run smoothly. The reason for smooth traffic is because the return traffic will be distributed in a few days since Christmas Day this year is followed by a weekend.

According to the traffic control centre at the Finnish Transport Agency, there is no traffic congestion on roads and neither is a pile-up expected to occur.

The national railway operator VR said it expects more passengers than normal and most trains will be able to fit the extra passengers.

Three big car accidents occurred along Tampere-Helsinki motorway in a span of an hour, leading a five-car chain collision.

Earlier on Boxing Day, a 24-year old man was seriously injured in Pieksämäki in a stabbing incident.

In another incident which happened in front of a restaurant in Kokkola, a man attacked a woman grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the ground. The same assailant punched another man who was later hospitalised.
